Verbal Text/Non-Verbal Context - Exhibition Catalog - Milwaukee Art Museum

28-page paperback book, 9.5 x 8", spiral bound, printed in two colors

This catalog was for an exhibition of handmade books by Wisconsin artists. Because the exhibition dealt with some alternative forms of book-making, I decided to make a catalog that was also out of the ordinary.

The book is bound with a plastic spiral binding, which made it possible to combine different paper stocks in whatever order I chose. There were eight artists in the exhibition, and each was featured in a two-page spread in the book. Each artist's biography and checklist, and a photograph of their work, is printed in black on cream-colored paper. The artist's statement is printed in red on a translucent vellum sheet, which overlays the photograph.
