Jacket for a 6 x 9" book, printed in three
spot colors
Sometimes I'm not provided with any art at all,
and I'm forced to improvise. In this case, the only historical
photo I received was a photo of the author from the Vietnam
War. Since this book is a memoir, an author photo is appropriate,
but not particularly engaging. The author worked for the CIA
in Vietnam, as a polygraph specialist. I illustrated various
art elements—file folder, map, polygraph readout—to
evoke the work which he details in the book's narrative. This
was all done in three spot colors: a black, a red, and a dark
yellow.
