Discursive Dress - Exhibition Catalog - John Michael Kohler Arts Center

64-page paperback book, 8 x 11.5", perfect-bound, printed in 4-color process

I worked for a short time at the John Michael Kohler Arts Center, a museum of contemporary art in Sheboygan, Wisconsin. I was the one and only graphic designer on staff. I designed all the printed materials for the museum, their exhibitions and performing arts events, and worked with local printers to get them produced.

This was an invitational exhibition which featured works by contemporary artists from all over the U.S. All of the works dealt with the subject matter of clothing, and its relation to gender, social class, and other issues. The curator of the exhibition provided me with the manuscript and the photographs. The photographs were supplied by the artists before the JMKAC exhibition was installed, so they were all taken by different photographers in different settings. I designed and typeset the entire book, and worked directly with the printer on the production of the book.

Pictured below are the cover design and spreads from the book.
